This was a project I started in the autumn of 2012 and worked on for several months. It was planned as a music video for a local band. There was of course no budget at all. A lot of the plot elements are takes on psychedelic or surreal themes. There is some obvious inspiration from the Jodorowsky movie “The Holy Mountain”, but I also tried to throw something local and my own topics into the mix.
I created the characters, scenery and objects for the video as layered files that my studio mate at the time Mikko Kalliomäki agreed to animate in After Effects later on. He also created some early animatics for the piece.
To make my life harder I drew the straight up animation bits into Manga Studio 4, which has no animation abilities at and all. And only after drawing all the frames of a given movement, I exported it to Photoshop to test if and how it actually works.
I created about a third of the assets like characters, scenery, props etc. but had blown the deadline big time by then. It was hard for me to keep the steam for this project, because it had to take the back seat many times, because of other commitments.
